Terms of Use
Last updated 2 August 2026
These terms are between you and BioEquity (“we”, “us”). By creating an account you agree to them. If you don’t, don’t use the app.
1. What BioEquity is
BioEquity is a commitment device. You choose a habit, set a target over fourteen days, and put your own money behind it. If you meet the target, you are charged nothing. If you fall short, part or all of your stake is charged and paid to a registered charity you chose when you made the bond.
You can never win money through BioEquity. There is no prize, no pot, and no other user’s money to win. Your best possible outcome is being charged nothing. We keep €0.00 of any stake.
2. This is not medical advice
BioEquity is not a healthcare provider and nothing in the app is medical advice. Talk to a doctor before starting or changing any exercise or health routine, particularly if you have an existing condition.
BioEquity is not suitable for everyone. If you are being treated for an eating disorder, an anxiety or mood disorder, or a gambling or compulsive-behaviour problem, financial pressure attached to health targets may do you harm. Please speak to a clinician before using it.
3. Bonds, and how settlement works
A bond runs for fourteen days from the day it starts.
You set a target — the number of days you intend to complete.
Every bond includes one grace day, applied automatically in your favour.
Reach roughly 90% of your target (grace included) and you are charged nothing.
Between roughly 50% and 90%, you are charged only the shortfall, rounded down in your favour.
Below roughly 50%, the full stake is charged and paid to your chosen charity.
The app shows you the exact number of days required before you commit.
Settlement is calculated on our servers from verified check-ins, and runs automatically after your bond ends whether or not you open the app.
4. Verification
Habits are verified from your device: workouts and step counts from Apple Health or Health Connect, or a live photo for habits a sensor cannot measure. Verification is performed on our servers, and a day can only be claimed on the day itself, measured in Irish time.
We do not claim this is proof. Health data supplied by a phone is not independently attested, and a determined person could submit false data. Deliberately doing so is a breach of these terms and we may close your account.
5. Payment
When you create a bond, your card is saved, not charged. You authorise us to charge it after the bond ends, without you being present, for any shortfall calculated under section 3. Card details are handled by Stripe and are never stored by us.
If your bank declines the charge we retry automatically for several days. If it continues to fail we may contact you.
6. Cancelling a bond
Within 24 hours of creating a bond, you may cancel it for any reason and nothing is charged.
After 24 hours, cancelling settles the bond immediately at your progress at that moment, which may result in a charge. The exact amount is always shown before you confirm.
If something has happened that makes this unfair — injury, illness, bereavement — contact cian@bioequity.ie before cancelling and we will deal with it individually.
7. Charity payments
Money charged for a shortfall is paid to the registered charity you selected. BioEquity retains none of it. We transfer collected amounts to each charity on a regular schedule and keep a record of every transfer.
8. BioEquity Pro
Bonds are free. Pro is an optional monthly subscription that allows several bonds at once and a higher maximum stake. It is billed through the App Store or Google Play, renews automatically, and is cancelled in your Apple or Google account settings. Where your employer provides Pro, it is billed to them and you are not charged.
9. Your account
You must be 18 or over and resident in a country we operate in. You are responsible for keeping your login secure. You can delete your account in the app at any time; see the Privacy Policy for what is erased and what we are required to keep. An outstanding charity payment must clear before an account can be deleted.
10. Limits of our liability
We provide BioEquity as it is. We do not guarantee that health data from your device will always be available or accurate, and we are not liable for injury, loss or damage arising from pursuing a habit you set yourself. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or your statutory rights as a consumer.
11. Changes
We may change these terms. Material changes will be notified in the app. Bonds already running continue under the terms in force when you created them.
12. Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Ireland and subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Irish courts. As a consumer you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country you live in.
